About Us

Why choose Crescent City Adventist School?

Your child  will benefit from being part of a national and international school system, but with the flexibility of local control.

  • Adventists know education. Students benefit from our expertise, having run schools since 1872.  We operate the second largest private school system in the world with more than 900 schools in North America ranging from preschools through universities.
  • Adventists excel at education. Rest assured, your child will receive the foundational support needed to pursue their dreams. Adventist schools boast an impressive track record: 85% of students continue on to college, compared to 66% from public schools, with over 80% successfully completing their degrees, a stark contrast to the 14% from public school backgrounds. Furthermore, a comprehensive three-year research project involving over 51,000 students from kindergarten through high school has documented numerous advantages of Adventist education.
    • Students in Adventist schools outperform. Researchers found that Adventist students consistently outperformed the national average across all grades, in schools of various sizes, and in every subject, when compared with students from both public and private schools.
    • Students in Adventist schools overachieve. Furthermore, researchers conducted comparisons of student performance on standardized tests against predictions based on their Cognitive Abilities Test scores, revealing that Adventist students consistently performed above their expected levels.
    • Students in Adventist schools gain even more with time.  One of the most striking discoveries was the significant improvement in test scores among students who transferred to Adventist schools. Moreover, the longer students remained in Adventist schools, the greater their academic achievements and overall abilities.
  • Adventists educate the whole child.  Your child will thrive in our school environment, where we prioritize not only outstanding academics but also holistic development, including nurturing healthy bodies and fostering positive social interactions. Through music, art, daily physical education, experiential learning projects, and community service, we provide a comprehensive approach that nurtures students spiritually, academically, physically, and socially. See below for more infomation.
  • Adventists educate for eternity.  As Protestant Christians, we emphasize that a personal relationship with God is foundational to a fulfilling and meaningful life, both in the present and for eternity. This belief guides everything we do and is the reason we exist.

Volunteers

Our students are so blessed by the many volunteers who enrich our program.  Every volunteer goes through a rigorous background check and training, and interacts with students only in a classroom environment with other teachers present.

Several of our volunteers are part of the Foster Grandparent Program although it is not required.  Volunteers of all ages are welcome.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us to start the clearance process.

Christian Character Development

Because we know we are influencing the future citizens of our community, we are energized to nurture character development.  Our aim is to work with the Holy Spirit who is speaking to students' hearts while we guide their behavior and choices in line with Gal. 5:22,23, "...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

Character development at our school focuses on:

  • Connecting students to Christ and encouraging them to follow His example,
  • Practicing service to our community, both within our school and to our broader community,
  • Being and becoming caring and responsible citizens where ever we live.

We love to talk with your about your goals for your child's character.

Emotional and Physical Safety

We recognize that parents are entrusting us with their precious children, and we take our responsibility seriously.

Physical safety

The structure of our campus and our safety procedures have been designed and adapted to maximize student and staff safety. This includes the use of security cameras and allowing  access only after visually confirming we know the person wanting to enter. We practice a variety of safety drills such as fire, earthquake, intruder and tsunami.

Emotional safety

Developing Christian character is one of our key priorities.  Our low teacher-student ratio allows our teachers to work individually with students on practicing kindness with each other. We focus not only on preventing bullying but also in helping students learn how to support and interact with each other constructively.

Come see how our campus and approach can give you peace of mind about your child's education.

Individualized Learning

Whether a student is academically advanced or needing to catch up, our program will allow them to thrive. Two key features allow for this.

Our multigrade classroom

Students in multigrade classrooms can work at different grade levels for different subjects based on what they are ready to learn. In single grade classrooms students may feel behind or frustrated about not being able to move ahead since the whole classroom is expected to be working at the same level. But since subjects are being taught at a variety of grade levels already, students can learn at their level, without the frustration.

Our low student-teacher ratio

With two teachers in our classroom, as well as 2-4 screened volunteers, our students benefit from uncommon levels of individual teaching and support.

To see how this can improve your child's educational progress, call us to schedule a visit.

Multigrade Classroom

Multigrade classrooms have several other advantages for students.

  • Older students have the opportunity to practice leadership skills.
  • Younger students have older role models within their classroom.
  • Research has shown that explaining something one has learned to another person reinforces that concept and improves remembering it later.
  • Even if students are "ahead" in one subject and "behind" in another they are able to continue learning at their best level.

To learn more about how multigrade classrooms work and the advantages they provide to students, call to set up a time to see us in action.

Holistic Growth

Growing spiritually

We exist to help students grow in their love for Jesus. While spiritual growth can’t be measured and quantified with numbers, we do see it happening every day. It starts with our commitment to making Christ the center of all we do––not just the subject of a single Bible class. And it continues through our focus on the Bible as the sole guide for our beliefs and behavior as Protestant Christians. We invite you to visit our campus and experience how our teachers model their love for God and nurture it in our students.

Growing academically

Our goal is to develop Christians with wisdom, not just knowledge. So we’ve structured our academic program to put God first and we find that, like Adventist schools of all sizes across the country, this results in students who grow academically at a higher rate than their peers in other schools (see the next paragraph). It really is true that when we “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) To learn more about the specific results of our school, schedule an Education Success Consult with our principal.

Growing physically

Making healthy choices is a way of honoring our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). And plenty of research documents the importance of healthy bodies in developing healthy brains. So we include learning about taking care of our bodies with daily exercise, good sleep, healthy eating, and more. To see how we integrate wise lifestyle choices into our curricula, come visit our campus.

Growing socially

Loving and serving others is part of God’s plan for each of us and something we practice daily.  As we interact with each other here at school and as we practice service in our community, we are guided by Paul’s words, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” (Ephesians 4:2) While we are not perfect, we are constantly aiming to be more Christ-like with each other and to serve our community.

Come see how this influences our students.
